National student mobilisation: Occupy Sussex on March 25th

11785The Sussex Occupation has called for a NATIONAL STUDENT MOBILISATION on March 25th. Students from all over the country will march on campus to demand an end to privatisation and marketisation in education. The fight that is being fought at Sussex is everyone’s, and NCAFC is urging students to go down to Brighton. We’re also working on getting coaches laid on from student unions.

About the demo:

On March the 25th, students and staff at the University of Sussex will be marching across the campus to oppose plans to sell off essential services to private companies. 235 staff are at risk of lowered wages, worsened working conditions and pensions, whilst students face unaccountable services run in the interests of profit.

Going on since May 2012, the campaign has seen mass demonstrations of students and staff coming together to push the university to stop the Great Sussex Sell-Off. The University community has continuously come together to oppose these proposals, with an ongoing occupation of the Bramber House Conference Center that started on the 7th of February.

The privatisation of universities and their services are part of the wider agenda of the marketisation of higher education. The fight against privatisation is a fight for education and public services. The University of Sussex is currently at the forefront of what is set to be a national trend of services being privatised to the detriment of staff, students and society at large. An injury to one is an injury to all!
