Marketisation of higher education is no longer a hypothetical threat – it is real and it is next door.
The New College of the Humanities (NCH) is an elite private institution. It started in 2011 and is based in Bloomsbury. Students pay almost £20,000 in upfront tuition fees. The College fits with the Tories’ more general vision for education: as an exclusive and marketable product, provided by private institutions who are accountable to rich people, not to society.
Education should be a public service, not a luxury for whoever has parents who can pay £20k . This term, the National Campaign Against Fees and Cuts will be holding regular demos outside NCH to highlight and fight the privatisation of our education system.
