Birmingham students prepare to confront ban on protests

Last November following a peaceful sit-in in an unused gate house at the University of Birmingham, university managed acquired a draconian injunction banning all “occupational protest action” for twelve months. The injunction was condemned by Amnesty International and others. Now they are preparing to take on and defeat this injunction, with a demonstration on 22 February.

For more information see www.guardian.co.uk/education/2011/dec/11/birmingham-university-protest-ban-condemned.

We are campaigning to get this injunction lifted and call on all concerned peoples to rally at 2pm at the Clocktower on the 22nd of February to increase pressure on the university to drop this flagrant attack on democratic rights.

This is the usual unproductive, careless and alienating behaviour from our so-called VPE and his sidekicks. Whether we like it or not, the cuts ARE coming. Ed, how about you begin to fight for what is actually possible; such as solving the joint honours mess, the disparity between arts and science contact hours and other problems which can be aided via communication with the university. In other words, stop trying to score political points and do the job you were voted and are paid to do!
