Liberal Democrats drag us down

The young Lib Dems need to update their website!

Yesterday Vince Cable, the Liberal Democrat Business secretary announced his plans for a graduate tax, making students pay more for their education when their degrees are finished.

Many students across the country voted Lib Dem on the basis of their opposition to tuition fees, and in some areas to stop the Tories winning seats.

Unfortunately they ended up with a Tory government likely to squeeze more money out of graduates, current and future students than ever before.

Liberal Youth – the LibDem’s section for young people have forgotten to change their website since the party got into power and changed all their policies. It contains a hilarious campaign page against Labour‘s introduction of tuition fees and abolition of free education.

Students going to University today will graduate with debts averaging £23,500..

Why? Because the New Labour government became greedy, breaking its manifesto promise to prevent the introduction of top-up fees. They wanted to expand foreign wars and enhance their capacity to spy on their citizens instead of helping them to expand their minds.

Thank God for the ConDem coalition then… or perhaps not, as the Young Lib Dems thought they’d have a pop at the Tories too – before the election and the Cam-Clegg marriage of course!

The Conservatives are no better. If they get in, they will massively hike up the interest you pay on your student loan.

How right they were – but perhaps they should have said something about their very own fees-monger Vince Cable.

But here comes the great final admission – free education is not just a privilege, according to the young Lib Dems, it’s a right! But I guess when you’re in a Tory coalition, rights don’t count for much.

The Liberal Democrats will ensure that everyone, no matter their background, has the right to a free university education at the institution they choose.

For students, there is only one gesture we should now be making to the Liberal Democrats–

This is what we think of your graduate tax
